UNC Basketball Recruiting: Devin Booker visiting Duke, Tar Heels

2014 shooting guard Devin Booker is the top recruit in the state of Mississippi, and he is heading to Chapel Hill today for an unofficial visit to the North Carolina Tar Heels. Booker will watch UNC take on their hated in-state rivals in the North Carolina State Wolfpack today, so a win for the Heels would also have some big recruiting ramifications. The Tar Heels are in a tough battle for Booker’s services, because the five-star recruit has plenty of teams trying to lure him to their programs.

The Florida Gators, Michigan Wolverines, UNC Tar Heels, Missouri Tigers, Duke Blue Devils, and the Michigan State Spartans are schools that Booker is high on. That means their are two huge in-state rivals (UNC and Duke and then Michigan and Michigan State) battling it out for Booker’s services. Thus, making this visit even bigger for UNC.

Devin Booker is one of the top 25 recruits in this class, and he is just outside the top five among shooting guards. LSU, Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Alabama have also offered him, thus giving Booker six SEC offers and one in-state offer when looking at the region. To me, it’s those six teams listed above that have the best shot at landing Booker. Of thos six teams, only Florida, Michigan, and Missouri have offered him thus far. I’m sure the other three will offer soon.

Florida will welcome Booker on an official visit on the 2nd of March, but for now he has two huge unofficial visits to watch for this weekend. Because after Booker travels to Chapel Hill today, he will have an unofficial trip to Durham to check out Duke tomorrow. So this weekend is also huge for Coach K and the rival Blue Devils.

Tom Izzo, Johnny Jones, Duke’s Jeff Capel, and an unnamed UNC coach have checked in with Devin Booker this month. He has taken two unofficial visits to Mizzou and another to Mississippi State since the fall. N.C. State is not currently involved in Booker’s recruitment.
