Before announcing a break from his recruiting process, Da’Shawn Hand announced a new top five list and on it…was not the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Hand announced his new top five just a few days before National Signing Day for he 2013 football recruiting class. His new top five consists of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida Gators, Michigan Wolverines, South Carolina Gamecocks and Virginia Tech Hokies.

This top-five list comes a bit of a shocker to some, especially those of “Tar Heel Nation” that had just read Hand was consider UNC and had UNC in his top five just last month. Of course things can change quickly when a coach leaves the school.

Former North Carolina defensive line coach Deke Adams played a huge role in the recruitment of Hand. More than likely his departure from Chapel Hill for South Carolina played a huge role in Hand’s decision to no longer consider North Carolina a destination for his collegiate career.

Hand is a five star star, 6-5, 247 pound defensive end from Woodbridge, Virginia. He ranks #1 in the nation, state, and in his position.

In 2011, Hand recorded 84 tackles and 21 sacks. Last year (his junior year) he had 110 tackles and 16 sacks.

The Tar Heels will now focus on their 2014 recruiting class after securing the 20th best recruiting class in the nation for 2013.
