Philadelphia Flyers Fly Past the Carolina Hurricanes: 5-3

The Carolina Hurricanes (3-4-0) took a road trip up north today take play the Philadelphia Flyers (3-6-0). Things didn’t quite goes as planned, but you can’t really complain about their performance on the ice today.

Home rink advantage definitely was a factor today. As the Hurricanes skated out onto the ice it was a sea of orange as Philadelphia sold out their third home game.

Joni Pitkanen scored the first point for Carolina with an assist from Eric Staal.

Also scoring for the Hurricanes was Eric Staal (Assist: Jiri Tlusty) and Patrick Dwyer (Assists: Jordan Staal, Jeff Skinner).

The Canes had one power play goal with six total power plays. They had forty-two shots on goal and won thirty-six face offs.

Both Claude Giroux and Danny Briere had a goal and an assist tonight. Also scoring for the Flyers were: Kurtis Foster, Braydon Coburn, and Mike Knuble

The Flyers took advantage of all three of their power play opportunities, scoring in all three power plays (three goals total in power play).

The Hurricanes six game road trip continues as they will travel even further north to play the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night.
