The North Carolina Tar Heels received an unofficial visitor this weekend in 2014 point guard Shelton Mitchell, who is one of the top five in-state recruits in the class. Mitchell is also one of the top ten point guards overall in the recruiting class and is believed to be leaning towards staying in the state of North Carolina.

Mitchell will be visiting UNC for the third time since October, as he also took an unofficial trip to Chapel Hill early this month. The Wake Forest Demon Deacons and Duke Blue Devils are two other schools that Mitchell has a high amount of interest in, and the Deacs are the only one of those three to have offered him. Mitchell also took an unofficial visit to check out Wake Forest.

One of the top 50 recruits in the class overall, Mitchell’s stock continues to rise and he is clearly an elite four-star point guard overall. Charlotte, Clemson, South Carolina, Illinois, Mississippi State, and Missouri have also offered the big PG from Waxhaw, North Carolina.

Even though Cuthberson lost to Hampton, Shelton Mitchell still managed to impress UNC by putting up 30 points and outplaying 2013 five-star point guard Anthony “Cat” Barber, who is currently signed to the North Carolina State Wolfpack.

Mitchell is just an incredible talent and has also garnered interest from Marquette, Washington, Virginia Tech, and N.C. State among others.
