UNC Football Recruiting: Tennessee Volunteers offer Vic Wharton

2014 Nashville athlete Vic Wharton is already a heavily recruited prospect, and he was able to nab the big in-state offer today from the Tennessee Volunteers after receiving offers from several other major programs- including the North Carolina Tar Heels. Wharton is a three-star prospect and one of the top 15 players in the state, so the offer from the Vols comes as no surprise.

Wharton has also received offers from Cincinnati, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. He has a high amount of interest in Notre Dame, and it will be interesting to see if the No. 1 Irish decide to offer the 5’11”, 175 pound Independence standout at some point in the near future.

Aside from ND, Ole Miss and the Bearcats are high on his list. UNC, Vandy, Tennessee, and the Bulldogs are also in the thick of his recruitment early on, and he received visits from Duke’s graduate assistant and a coach from the Tennessee Volunteers. It will be interesting to see if Duke decides to put in an offer, but it looks like it’s too late for the Blue Devils to get involved and battle for Wharton’s services with bigger football programs.

Coaches from Vandy and Ole Miss also visited within the past month, and the three-star prospect has also taken unofficial visits to both Cincinnati and Vanderbilt this fall. Vic Wharton could rise up to a top 500 overall ranking in the class of 2014, and the offer from the Vols is a big one in the junior’s recruitment.

The only other in-state school besides North Carolina to have offered Wharton is Wake Forest, but the Demon Deacons are not expected to be in the mix for Wharton at this moment in time.
